Bristol, United Kingdom - An Insight

Bristol is the largest city in the south-west of England, with a population of nearly 400,000 people. It is situated near the Bristol Channel, and along the River Avon, which runs directly through the city.

During WWII the city was heavily bombed due to its extremely busy port and docks area in the middle of the city. Since then the city has been rebuilt with some buildings having survived the bombings. The ports and docks closed in 1962 when they were moved to the edge of the city on the Bristol Channel. It has been actively involved with the motor and aviation industries throughout the last century, being the original home of the Bristol Cars in Filton. It was also responsible for the construction of the Concorde aircraft which were constructed in the UK.

Bristol is home to many famous landmarks such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge - built by Brunel, the St Mary Redcliffe Church, and now permanent home to the SS Great Britain, and Concorde G-BOAF. Each year the city hosts the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which is the largest hot air balloon ascent in the whole of Europe.

A new shopping centre (Cabot's Circus) is currently under construction in Bristol which should ensure that it becomes one of the UK's top shopping destinations. The Mall at Cribbs Causeway also offers numerous shops, just off Junction 17 of the M5. The city is conveniently situated near the M4/M5 motorways, Temple Meads Train Station, and Bristol International Airport, making it easily accessible from all over the world.
